Jan 28, 2012 - Day 8

Saturday morning we wake up to beautiful sunshine… thankfully the rain never lasts very long from our experience on Isla. We are all hungry for breakfast at Chicago Deli today and start heading out… we see this cute little gecko sunning himself on the sidewalk and stop to take a picture.

Once we are settled at a table under the palapa roof, we place our orders. Butch and Joe are getting their standard order of 2 eggs Sunnyside up with American sausage for Butch and bacon for Joe… Kay also sticks with her favorite, the scrambled western eggs. I decide to order something different this morning to mix it up a little bit and go with chilaquiles the eggs scrambled… it also comes with a pork chop. Their meals are delicious as usual and mine is pretty good… the only thing that I didn’t like is that the red sauce on the chips starts making them soggy after a while, especially if you are a slow eater.

After breakfast, we head back to the hotel to lie out on the beach and hang out for a while. Later in the afternoon, we all start getting hungry for lunch. Since Joe wasn’t able to get out to La Bruja for his birthday dinner the night before due to rain, we decide that lunch at La Bruja sounds like a really great idea. On the way to lunch, we see more progress on getting the new street lights up. We also notice that they have taken some of the blue tiles off the boat statue and are adding a section of orange tiles. We are unsure if this was planned, or a running change.

Arriving at La Bruja, Roberto gives us a warm welcome as usual and knows exactly what Joe will be ordering, but confirms this with a look to Joe just in case. Yes, it is the breaded grouper, but today he wants 2 orders… I guess he is making up for not getting it last night! Since Joe isn’t much of a salad eater, a while back he asked Roberto to just give him the fish fillet so the rest doesn’t go to waste… so it is just the two fillets that he is getting. Kay is also hungry for fish and orders garlic grouper while Butch and I want tacos, so he decides on the pork (not surprising) and I get the chicken. Everyone is very happy and loves their meals… especially Joe who is stuffed and smiling gill to gill!

After lunch, we drive around on the cart for a while checking out various side streets in La Gloria until Butch and Kay decide that they want to go back for a siesta at the hotel. They have decided to stay out with us tonight and listen to John Cain, so they want to be well rested.

Siestas and showers completed, we journey out for the evening with a stop for 2 x 1’s at Brisa Mexicana. While we are enjoying our drinks, we see the truck drive by announcing the circus… we wonder where they are going to get that set up. Since John Cain is playing at Bally-Hoo tonight, we decide that we should eat dinner there as well so we get good seats. During 2 x 1’s, Joe goes to Bally-Hoo to see if we can make a reservation just in case it is really busy… he is able to get a reservation for a table right up front. We finish our drinks and make our way over to the dock. We ate at Bally-Hoo once before, but it has been a couple years so we are looking forward to trying it out again. Joe isn’t as hungry since he had two fillets for lunch… so he orders the fish and chips, which I believe was on the appetizer section of the menu. Butch and Kay both think the chicken fajitas sound good and decide on those. I am the one that always takes a while to order, and one of the things that I love about the “Holly Eats” website are the pictures of the different menus… because I will often times peruse the menu before I get somewhere so I can narrow down the choices and then make a final decision once I get there. I finally decide on the Pasta Marinara which has clams, mussels and shrimp with garlic butter noodles… turns out it is to die for! Everyone else really likes their meals as well and we finish eating about the same time that John starts playing. Butch and Kay are not normally music lovers, however, it seems they really enjoy John’s music and have a great time… we thought they would.

After the show Butch and I are craving a dessert, so on the way back to the hotel we stop at the square and pick up a nutella and banana marquesita for him and a caramel and banana marquesita for me… they really hit the spot.

Once at the hotel, Joe and I find ourselves wanting to head back to Miguels for a nightcap and maybe still catch some of the band’s last set. It turns out the party is still going strong, but we are still able to get a good spot inside and enjoy the rest of the night. Dean is trying to corral the waiter Jose into dancing and Jose was having nothing to do with it.
